Brad Brown: Welcome to the next Ask Coach Parry podcast today’s question comes from Rialize Potgieter and it read as follows: Hi there Lindsey, what should one be eating the week before an ultra marathon?

Lindsey Parry: Look, you should be eating as close to what you are used to eating as possible, so obviously there’s the school of thought that we would want to do some carbo loading in the week before but I’m not a huge fan of carbo loading just because in that week before we’ve reduced our mileage so much anyway, so I feel like we’re doing a pretty good job of carbo loading just by eating our normal food, so try and keep your diet as normal as possible.

Are you a carbo loader?

If you are one of those people that likes to carbo load or believes in carbo loading, increase the carbohydrate intake slightly, but don’t go crazy. I mean, you don’t really have to be having enormous bowls of pasta and extra potato etcetera because all that’s going to do is put a lot of stress on your gut.

BB: Brilliant, thank you so much for that question. Lindsey, thank you for your time as well. Don’t forget if you’d like to be in touch just head over to the website. Go to askcoachparry.com. You can submit your question on that website and who knows we could be answering it in the next edition of the podcast. Until tomorrow from the two of us it’s Cheers.
